Advent Message

Posted On Friday November 29, 2024

Dear Families,

As the season of Advent begins this Sunday, December 1, we are reminded of the profound meaning this time holds within our Catholic faith. Advent is a time of spiritual preparation and reflection as we anticipate the celebration of the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

This season offers us an opportunity to pause and reflect on the values of hope, peace, joy and love. It is a time to gather with family and friends, and to reach out to those in need within our community as we live out our faith through acts of charity.

In our schools, Advent is also a time of learning and spiritual growth. Our students engage in activities that deepen their understanding of Christmas and participate in acts of service and kindness that reflect the teachings of Jesus. Many of our schools will be raising much-needed funds for the Durham Catholic Children’s Foundation, ShareLife, Feed the Need, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, amongst other community organizations. We know this time of year brings much joy but may also be a difficult season for some in our community. Any support you can provide – either financial, or through volunteering or other acts of generosity, is appreciated.

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our families for your ongoing support and partnership. Your dedication to your children's education and your commitment to nurturing a strong, faith-filled community are so important to student success and well-being. We have created a webpage that contains links to many Advent resources that you may wish to use at home with your children. Please visit dcdsb.ca/Advent to access these resources. Together, we can continue to focus on our mission to be an inclusive Catholic learning community that inspires every student to achieve their full potential through faith and education.

As we journey through Advent, let us keep in our hearts the message of hope and the promise of new beginnings that Christmas brings.

Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed Advent season.

Yours in hope and faith,
